Scrappy Fabric Ornaments {A Tutorial}

If you read my blog then you may have noticed that I am a fabric junkie! I think I need to just work in a fabric store or open one up.  I just love all the colors and styles and thinking of things to make with it.  I just don't always have the time to real "sew", so that is where all my fabric scrap projects come in.  I like easy, fun and quick!  So, here is a little tut on these cute little ornaments that you can whip up in no time!

SUPPLIES:

Foam balls (I used 2" and 3" sizes)

Fabric scraps cut into long strips (I had all lengths and widths that I used..no measuring required!)

Extra long straight pins

Twine or Ribbon

1.  Start with your fabric strip.  Here is what mine looked like.  I ended up using about three like this for the larger ball.  I like when the fabric is a little frayed.  Some of mine were and some were not.

2. Next, just hold down the end with your thumb and start wrapping...

..and wrapping....making sure to overlap your fabric so that you do not see the Styrofoam...

...and wrapping...if you come to the end of your fabric, but haven't wrapped the whole ball then just overlap it and keep wrapping.  No need to glue or sew.

3.  When you have completely covered the ball stick a pin in place and cut off any excess fabric.  

4. Cut off enough twine or ribbon to tie off one end while making a loop for hanging.

5.  Take your pin out and stick the twine in the knot and through the ball.

6. Start decorating! Use them on your tree or tie on packages!

The ornaments in the girl's room were done in pink and green fabrics.  The possibilities are endless.  Match them up to your Christmas decor!

Ruffled Note Cards {A Tutorial}

This little tutorial is easy smeezy! All you need:

* Card stock, or flat note cards

*Scrap fabric cut into strips a little wider than your card (enough for a few ruffles)

*Sewing machine with your choice of thread

*Envelopes

First line up one end of your fabric with the edge of your card (you can see how I did this at the back of my presser foot).  Make a few stitches (I used a zig-zag stitch).  After a few stitches I pinched a little pleat for a ruffle, and held it down until my presser foot grabbed it.

Do this the full width of your card, making sure you have enough fabric to end with.  It's ok if it gets a little crooked or hangs off a little...that is what makes it unique!

Hello there sweet friends! It feels like fall has finally made it here to the south! Hope you are enjoying some fun fall weather for yourself.  In honor of the season I thought I would share with you some more fall printables that I have stored away.

Mexican Cornbread Salad

Last week I attempted 3 recipes to enjoy and to share with all of you out there in bloglog land.  Sadly only one turned out to be blog worthy.  The other two were edible, but until I can correctly make them, I am not going to share them just yet.

So, this salad is just the best especially in the summer when you can get some really yummy ripe tomatoes for it.  I think that it came from a Southern Living a few years back.  My mom tested it out first, and since then I have loved making it! Mainly...it is easy!

What you need:
Romine lettuce (I used a package that had 3 heads in it, but I did not use the stalk part, b/c I do not like that part...just the leafy part)
Cooked mexican cornbread, cooled, and crumbled (see alt. recipe)
2 fresh diced tomatoes
1 can of black beans...drained
1 can of mecican corn ( sometimes I put 2)...drained
3 chopped green onions
cooked bacon pieces (I usually take the easy way out and buy the pieces that are found near the dressings)
2 cups shredded cheddar
ranch dressing

You can layer your salad in any bowl, but I like using this pedestal one that I have so that you can see all the pretty layers!

Here are the orders of the layers....
1/2 lettuce
1/2 cornbread
1/2 black beans
1/2 mexican corn
1/2 tomatoes
1/2 bacon
1/2 green onions
ranch dressing (I just eyeball how much to use)

1 cup shredded cheddar

Next, start your layers over.  It might look like it will not fit, but it will once you start layering! Mr. Nice is not a fan of green onions so I usually put them on the side for myself.  For the cornbread I use just a mix from the grocery, but I use this recipe found on the back.  It just has all the extra yummy stuff in it!

Cookie Dough Cupcakes

Do you love cookie dough? Do you love cupcakes? Then you will ADORE this recipe!
I had these for the first time about a year ago thanks to my friend Ashley.  When the girls and I went grocery shopping yesterday, I could not pass up the adorable patriotic cupcake mixes and sprinkles! Then when I saw the patriotic cookie dough I knew exactly what we would make!

What you need:
Cake mix of choice
Cookie dough that has been portioned off
Icing
Sprinkles


How to make them:
Mix up your cake batter following the directions, and pour into a muffin pan. (We made 12 large ones and 12 mini ones)

Break off pieces of cookie dough and put in the middle of cupcake (be sure to push it all the way down...I let the girls do this step and I did not pay much attention to the fact that they did not push them down all the way...so our cookies overflowed a bit!)

Bake according to directions

Cool, Frost, and Sprinkle!

When you bite into your cupcake you should find a nice gooey cookie dough surprise!! YUM!
